Appointing New Adults

Appointing Adult Roles (non OH)

Agree the role to be taken on

APPLICANT & LINE MANAGER

The volunteer and their line manage discuss the specifics of the role to be taken on.

The line manager must make clear to the applicant that there are initial checks to be completed and that every role (apart from Occasional Helpers) incurs some level of training obligations (see below).

The line manager creates new role on compass.


Create / Check Compass Record

APPLICANT & LINE MANAGER

The line manager must check if the applicant already has a Compass record. If they do, they should create the new role. Additionally, the Line Manager should help the applicant to access it and check that their details are correct.

If not, then ‘Add an Adult’ on compass and add the necessary role.


Apply for a Disclosure

SEE SEPARATE PROCESS

Remind the applicant that they are unable to have unsupervised access until this is returned with a ‘satisfactory’ result from DBS.


Provide 2 References

APPLICANT & LINE MANGER

New volunteers taking on leadership roles must also supply to references. They supply names and details to the line manager. The Line Manager should send the AR form to the referee. Once returned these should be sent to the Appointments Secretary.


Complete Mandatory Training

APPLICANT

Create the mandatory getting started modules which include Module 1 Safeguarding, Safety, GDPR (for all roles).

Meet the Appointments Panel

APPLICANT & APPOINTMENTS PANEL

The Adult Appointments Committee (AAC) secretary will contact the applicant and their line manager to meet with all new volunteers (and some changing roles) to check that they know what they are signing up to.

It is also a chance for the volunteer to meet the wider Scouting community and understand what help and support is available.

Safeguarding & Safety Training

APPLICANT

We request that all adults involved in Scouting in Epsom and Ewell complete Safeguarding and Safety training to ensure our young people have the best experience that they can whilst in our care. These are online modules and take approximately an hour in total.
