This information should be read in conjunction with the information on the Scouts website.


Discussion with your Line Manager

APPLICANT & MANAGER

Discuss with your line manager (Group Scout Leader) to check if they will support your application and agree that you are ready to apply.

Decide which type of permit you want (Indoor, Campsite, Greenfield or Lightweight)


Contact our Nights Away Team

APPLICANT AND NAA

Contact the NAA at least 6 weeks before any proposed assessment event to ensure availability.

Be sure to let the assessor have any requested paperwork in good time.

They will arrange a time to meet with you to discuss the process and to support you throughout your application.

They will also arrange a date to visit your camp.


Submit your NAP Application

APPLICANT

Complete the NAP application form with as much detail as possible. This is your chance to highlight any key experience that you have had as an adult who has previously attended and supported at camps and expeditions. In addition, you can include any courses you have attended.


Plan your Camp

Working alongside an experienced leader you need to plan your camp / expedition.

When planning your event, you may find it useful to look at the assessor checklist below to make sure you are hitting all the markers!

This is always a vital piece of paperwork for any residential event and MUST be submitted at least 7 days in advance (14 days if adventurous activity permits are being used during the event).

For your first residential you will need to ensure that you have an existing permit holder with you who can attend for the duration of the event.


Run Your Event!

Applicant, NAP holder & NAA

Make sure you have cover for the period where the assessor has told you that they will visit so that you can be free to concentrate on their questions.

There won’t be any surprises or trick questions so don’t worry and the assessor will let you know of their decision before leaving.

Your line manager must always be informed of any planned residential events before any applications are made to district..

This should be your Group Scout Leader for any sectional events, or District Commissioner for a whole group event.


Submit your NAN form

This is always a vital piece of paperwork for any residential event and MUST be submitted at least 7 days in advance (14 days if adventurous activity permits are being used during the event).

For your first residential you will need to ensure that you have an existing permit holder with you who can attend for the duration of the event. The Nights Away administrator will confirm receipt of the NAN.


Receive Confirmation from NAA

NIGHTS AWAY ADMINISTRATOR

You will receive a confirmation of receipt of your NAN form being submitted. If you haven’t heard anything within 48 hours of the date of the event, please do get in touch.
