Young Leaders are aged 14-18 and are valued members of the leadership teams in many Scout groups in Epsom and Ewell.
The young leaders are usually from our Explorer Scout section but occasionally Young Leaders are young people who come in from schools to do volunteering.
It is still a requirement for them to do training for both The Scouts and DofE requirements. This training must include Module A plus one other training module for Bronze during their time with a section.
Those from schools are also required to do two more training modules for each level of the DofE if they wish to volunteer.
For ALL young leaders, it is essential that Module A is completed before they start volunteering (or within 3 months of starting the role if necessary.
New young leaders are required to complete the following application form:

Training Opportunities
Prior to starting working with sections, Young Leaders should have completed Module A from the Young Leader training scheme and then continue to work through the others during the year.
There are lots of opportunities for Young Leader training in Epsom and Ewell as follows:
Module A – Prepare for Take-Off
This module aims to give Young Leaders, the essential information you need to perform your role safely. It will provide you with the skills you need to assist with another section and understand your role as a Young Leader. You will also discover how the young Leaders’ Scheme works and how to access further training opportunities.

Module D&F – Behaviour and Inclusivity
This module will prepare Young Leaders, to make reasonable adjustments to the programme to meet the needs of all the young people in the section. It will also give you a basic understanding of the different additional needs young people may have.

This module aims to introduce Young Leaders, to some of the concepts of leadership. It provides you with the skills you need to work more effectively as a leader in your chosen section. The module explores different styles of leadership, when to use them
and how to effectively lead different sorts of activities.

All young leaders are encouraged to attend a first aid course and we regularly include this as part of our Young Leader Training Scheme. This also qualifies YL’s for Stage 5 of the Emergency Aid Badge
