At Epsom and Ewell Scout District, we believe that Scouting should be open to everyone. Every young person deserves the opportunity to take part, try new adventures, make friends, and develop skills for life through The Scout Association.

Our SEND and Inclusion Awareness Sessions are designed for adult volunteers across the District who want to feel more confident supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their sections.

Across our groups, leaders are increasingly supporting young people with a wide range of additional needs. While this can sometimes feel challenging, it is also one of the most rewarding parts of Scouting. These sessions are being run to help leaders feel supported, informed, and empowered to make their sections welcoming and inclusive for all.

During the sessions we will:

  • Explore what SEND can look like within a Scouting environment
  • Share practical tips and adjustments that can make activities more accessible
  • Talk through real-life situations leaders may encounter
  • Provide clear guidance and signposting to helpful resources
  • Create space to ask questions and share experiences
  • Help build a supportive network of leaders across the District

These sessions are friendly, practical and supportive. They are not about getting everything perfect, but about learning together and gaining ideas that can make a real difference for young people.

By attending, you will leave with greater understanding, increased confidence, and practical approaches that you can take straight back to your section.

Together, we can continue to make Epsom and Ewell Scouting a place where every young person feels welcome, supported and able to belong
