Historical Origins & Development
7th Epsom (Methodist) Scout Group has an illustrious history reaching back to 1927, when it was formed as part of the expanding Scout Movement in Epsom. Over the decades the Group has evolved into a modern, socially responsible organisation that offers young people aged 6 to 18 opportunities for fun, adventure and personal development.
From its early years connected with the local Methodist community, the Group has grown in size and scope, expanding from its original sections to include Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Throughout this time it has maintained its commitment to the core principles of Scouting – teamwork, outdoor skills, service and leadership – adapting its programme to meet the changing needs of successive generations of members.
The Group has supported a rich variety of activities beyond weekly meetings, including camps such as Spring Bank camp, summer camps, and the annual “Water Weekend” at Thames Young Mariners, where Scouts and Explorers undertake kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and other water-based activities under qualified supervision.
As part of its ongoing development, 7th Epsom Scouts is planning towards its centenary in 2027, with special events and celebrations in the years leading up to this milestone, reflecting its sustained presence and impact in the local community.
Headquarters & Facilities
7th Epsom (Methodist) Scout Group’s Scout Headquarters is situated to the rear of the Epsom Methodist Church site on Ashley Road, Epsom, Surrey KT18 5AQ.
The building serves as the central hub for the Group’s weekly section meetings, providing indoor space for indoor activities, group gatherings and training. As a modern and well equipped facility, it supports a wide range of Scouting programmes and enables the Group to deliver a diverse and engaging experience for its members.
The headquarters is organised and maintained in partnership with the Methodist Church, providing a safe, accessible and well-resourced environment that reflects both the Group’s heritage and its commitment to ongoing development.
