1st Ewell Court (St Clements)

1st Ewell Court (St Clements) Scout Group is an active Scout Group in Epsom & Ewell District, part of Surrey Scouts, offering Scouting for young people aged roughly 5¾ to 14 through its Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections. The Group’s programme is built around fun, challenge and skills development, and helps young people build confidence, teamwork and practical experience through a varied programme of indoor and outdoor activities. 

The Group is rooted in the local parish community, encouraging young people to take part in community events and work with others to develop their leadership, resilience and adventurous spirit. Leaders and volunteers give their time to deliver an inclusive Scouting environment where young people can grow and explore new challenges.

Historical Origins & Development

1st Ewell Court (St Clements) Scout Group developed as part of the growth of Scouting in the Ewell Court area, closely linked to St Clement’s Church and the surrounding parish community. Like many parish-based Scout Groups formed in the mid-20th century, the Group was established to serve local families by providing structured youth activities grounded in the values of service, teamwork and outdoor adventure.

Over time, the Group expanded to support multiple age sections, reflecting the evolution of the Scout Movement nationally. The introduction of Beavers broadened access to younger children, while the continued operation of Cubs and Scouts ensured progression through the core Scouting programme. Throughout these changes, the Group has maintained a strong emphasis on regular weekly meetings, participation in camps and District events, and engagement with the local community.

1st Ewell Court has remained a stable presence within Epsom & Ewell District, adapting its programme to meet changing expectations around inclusion, safeguarding and youth development while preserving traditional Scouting activities such as badge work, outdoor skills and group challenges. The headquarters provides indoor meeting space suitable for weekly section meetings, skills sessions, badge work and planning for outdoor activities. Space is used flexibly to accommodate games, crafts, planning sessions and group gatherings.
