Deliver high-quality Scouting for young people by leading, developing, and supporting the 7th Epsom Scout Group. Provide strategic direction, ensure compliance with Scout Association policies, and empower a team of volunteers to operate safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
• Provide overall leadership and management for the Scout Group, ensuring smooth delivery of weekly programmes and activities.
• Oversee all Sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers), ensuring age-appropriate, vibrant, inclusive provision.
• Act as main point of contact between the Group and Epsom & Ewell District.
Volunteer Support and Development
• Recruit, induct, support, and retain adult volunteers across the Group.
• Facilitate regular team meetings.
• Encourage skill development and training uptake among volunteer leaders.
Compliance and Safety
• Ensure appropriate safeguarding practice and adherence to The Scout Association’s policies and procedures.
• Oversee maintenance of records (DBS, training, programme planning, risk assessments).
• Liaise with District on insurance, premises, and safety requirements.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
• Represent 7th Epsom in community forums and local partnerships.
• Promote Scouting within local schools, churches, and organisations to increase awareness and membership.
Planning and Growth
• Support development planning for the Group.
• Identify opportunities for growth, resources, and facilities improvement.
• Contribute to budget planning and fundraising initiatives.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
• Commitment to Scouting values and supporting young people’s development.
• Leadership experience (volunteer, community, or professional).
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a team of volunteers.
• Good communication and stakeholder engagement.
Desirable
• Experience in youth work, charity or community leadership.
• Knowledge of The Scout Association’s governance and policies.
• Safeguarding awareness.
